Does anyone hang/age rabbits? If so for how long? I've just being freezing and cooking them in the past. I'm thinking of ageing them abit now

a 3/4 rabbit a day to 2 days in the fridge.

The baby bunnies are out. I shot one the other evening and his mother.
And he was well on, eating grass, another few weeks and they will be all out.

Just remember lads,if you like a few rabbits for the pot every now and then, and they aren't a pest in your area, don't go too nuts shooting the young and the does now. Like I said in a post a few weeks ago,one of my permissions got decimated lately by two tossers who don't give a sh1t about next year. Think ahead guys...

I shoot bunnies over a very large area, including several counties.
I shoot all year round and i shoot young bunnies.
The most effective way to wipe out bunnies is with ferrets, not a rifle.

Every time I shoot one 2 normally run.
Them two are wary wise from then on.
The best hunt of a rabbit is a bunny that has been fired at, or seen his buddy fired at before ;)

unfortunately I myself don't have a huge area over which to shoot bunnies, well not several counties anyway:( i'm just saying to people that may not have lots of permissions to look after the ones they have. Any by believe me,you CAN wipe out bunnies from an area with just guns. Happened down my way a few years ago before I got properly into shooting.

Biggest threat to bunnies is disease, if you don't shoot them they get mixy and die.
I reckon I shoot only 30-40% of the local bunnies, The majority get killed on the road or die of disease.
Shot two in the past three weeks with Mixy or something very similar

Bunny permissions is relatively easy get anyway.
Every permission leads to at least 3 more!

    Get out and get asking!

Believe me Tack,i'm lookin hard for new spots, but you wouldn't believe the amount of anti types round my area! If I had a quid for every time i've been chastised, told off, bollocked, called cruel, inhumane or otherwise i'd be able to afford that Beretta diamond pigeon i've been dribbling over in my local rfd's place:) thankfully some land owners are coming around and letting me and a few of the lads shoot.

Isn't the aim of getting a farmers permission too wipe them out? If a farmer gives you the permission to shoot them doesnt that mean he wants rid of them, if he didnt have them on his land chances of you getting permission is slim to non ????

Most of my permissions the farmers even throw me in a few boxes of cartridges to get rid them all  The farmers I have come across despise them, reck havoc on their land... As for maxi rabbits you could near enough walk up and boot them  I had a maxi rabbit live in the garden for a few days, pitiful sight in the end I think the cats got it...

Hey tack do you have ferrets. I want to catch some rabbits and transport them to somewhere where we don't have any to try and get some going. I know a place that has millions but catching them without killing them is a problem!

    Thanks
    Anthony

Not everyone who has rabbits on their land want's them wiped out. Some of up like hunting them and want to keep doing it for as long into the future as possible. And just to clarify, I never said I was shooting them on farmers land, that's why I said LANDOWNER and not farmer. Our best permissions for rabbits are not on farmed land but just private land.

That's illegal in a number of ways.

You are not allowed to have live wild animals in your possession without a licence, including vermin.

Rabbits are an agricultural pest and cannot be introduced to areas.

Also if there are no rabbits in your area they probably wouldn't do well there. Theyll thrive in there natural habitat. Donno what soil types are in your area but ive heard that theyll only burrow in sandy soil, maybe for drainage issues.

They will burrow in sandy soil, but also light clay soils.
They do not like heavy clay soils as it can callopse.

The midlands is the home of rabbits as it has a mixture of clay and sand.

Anywhere you get nettles you'll get rabbits (and stings :()

I must show a few pics of the damage Bunnies have done to teh soil around me.

Several areas of hill were hacked into.
The nearest corn field to me has bunnies starting burrows in the field as it is easy to dig.

I don't shoot all the bunnies, but I seriously keep them in check.
Un checked Bunnies can cause a lot of harm

If all the game in an area is "wiped out" there's nothing left, you don't have to be a genius to figure that out, I find landowners just want numbers controlled, not "wiped out:mad:
