Is this an NCT fail? small chip & crack starting 1" below the top on the passenger side...it's about 8" long.

if the crack is outside the area that is swept by the windscreen wipers then its unlikely to fail. i forget the exact passable measurements.

if its a crack and spreading as far as i know it will fail nct.

^ and how would the determine how the crack is spreading?

come back in a week and see if its spread?

I cant remember what exactly are the size limitations, but there in the NCT manual

i was thinking that..but there's no way of telling if it will spread. it is only on the top side of the screen..you cant feel any ridge on the inside..not that that will matter!

Here is a link to the LGV testing manual, I think the specs are the same.

    Go to page 25

The definitive answer for a car is in Section 10 of the NCT manual (pdf).

went to nissan to find out the price of a new windscreen! €633 + vat and that doesn't include fitting!!! my car is 00D with 100K (miles) on the clock. is it possible to buy a second hand screen and have it fitted? where would i go for both?

Check with your insurance company as its replacement may covered.

no i dont have windscreen cover..unfortunately. but i will tick the box next year!! as i'll be renewing insurance before the nct..i'll get the claim in then! hopefully.

Why would you go to a dealer for a windscreen? Ring one of the specialist windscreen places like autoglass etc, they'll be half the price I recon.

I'd be willing to bet that half the main dealers would get the windscreen from them anyway if you ordered it!

    You'd loose :D

All the dealers use them and very few will actually fit a windscreen, or change tyres, they all get it people now.
