try the adverts.ie link on boards, i wouldnt bother with an slr not unless you'd want to take up photography as a job or hobbie, herself has an slr but i bought her a nikon s3000 digital camera for xmas and a good shot of the options you'd have on a dslr are on that, its a hell of a bunch cheaper than a nikon dslr.

Richard, try some of the camera shops, you can get a great deal on D50's and lenses. But with a decent digitial camera and a bit of skill and you'll be able to get great shots. Just remember, natural lighting is so much better than artificial.

you could bribe any airsofters/combat photographers with airsoft goodies to come down and photograph the items in question.

I've a lot of natural light on our mezzanine level so you reckon forget the lights and just use that?
Maybe looking at spending about €300 on camera itself. Is that enough for something decent?

On a good day, you wouldn't need the lights at all. I'd say if you looked around you could get something decent for that, I haven't looked in ages, but ask Dex or Andy_G, they know a lot more than me.

Taking product shots for a website is nothing like action photography, landscapes, portraiture or pretty much any other kind of photography. You need digital SLR, and you'll need a slave flash unit with a directable head unit - all in all you could get kitted out for 300, maybe 350. A good tripod wouldn't go amiss, and a light reflector would be great too.

Natural light is crap for product shots, and the light in the mezzanine wouldn't be suitable.

Haha - give me tea and biscuits tomorrow and I'll tell you what we used to take the product shots for the range of Rothco knives on our site :)

It's pretty easy once you have the right gear and a smidgin of knowledge.

Rothco found our shots on Facebook and lifted them for themselves :)
