I thinking of buying a car from Antrim, i put in the exact details of the car on the VRT website and it gave me a VRT of €2214, but i was told by a main dealer who has a similar car as the one i am looking for that i should add about €1500 on top of that as they add on for metalic paint, alloys and any other extras.
His car is €12950 and the same car up the North is €8300 plus VRT of €2214, total=€10514.
Is this the case for the extras or how does it work?

Call the motortax office, never, ever take a dealer's word on something like that.

Some extras are VRT'd as extras, alloys and metalic paint won't fall in to this category if they were standard on the base model of that car for which you are VRT'ing.

The VRT (NCT) crowd usually only add on extra charges for extras on Mercs, BMW's, Audi's, etc.
Extras such as factory-fitted sat-nav, upgraded stereo's, any factory-fitted tuning or suspension upgrades....that type of thing.
Metallic paint or alloys on a run of the mill saloon should not result in a VRT increase.

Apart from that there have been some reports of people being asked for a lot more money to VRT a car than the VRT calculator indicated. This does not seem to be as prevalent now as when the NCT gang were awarded the contract.
