Hi i'm doing an Entrepreneurship project and i'd like some feedback on what kind of Business model's have been profitable during the recession.

I have covered fast food outlets and the increase in the amount of takeaways in comparison to the decrease in luxury resteraunts

I'v also found out that eco-friendly companies have had high levels of growth despite the relatively high prices

Is there many other types of business's that have done well ?
    Any feedback would be great

    Thanks

Call answering services are doing very well at the moment as companies can't afford a receptionist they are paying afew hundred a year to a call answering service instead.

I believe couriers are doing ok as a lot of people are buying stuff online / selling their old stuff etc.

I'd imagine, debt collectors, discount stores would be doing alright.

Also paddy power are still showing huge increases in profit levels so gambling might be an area to look at.

Also off licences if people are choosing to stay in more rather then spend more money by going out.

Legal Professional Service firms involving in the fall out from the Celtic
Tiger years are doing well screwing advising the State.
So you could put together a study something like "Demand for Professional Legal Services after a property crash".

Other operators which have been doing well, again in the professional services arena are accountancy firms involved in liquidations of companies.

Do not forget as well, discount supermarkets. Lidl, Aldi and Iceland have all stolen market share from other operators. Iceland is one of few retailers
in Ireland which has some ambitious expansion plans.

    Penneys:D

But also, any retail or delivery business establishing online that cuts out the cost of rates/rents. Social commerce websites and classified ads websites like Facebook eshops, Donedeal, BabyBay or whohasit.ie

I think there are lots of businesses doing well these days, its a very exciting time:)

    Yurt,

I would love to get a update on the areas you consider to have potential.

Many on this forum seem to have the business idea but not the finance. I have 100k (hopefully the potential to borrow more) and not sure what area to go for. I am leaning towards Fastfood or convenience store by default because I have found fault with everything else.

How do you know Donedeal, BabyBay and WhoHasIt are actually doing well?

Donedeal is flying, over a million turnover last year and their margins are substantial. It could do better, there are many ways it could develop.

Babybay isn't doing great, its just that bit too niche, but the platform is there to be developed and she gets a lot of press.

Whohasit.ie is doing great, he has Seán Gallagher on board now. I know the guy behind it Terry Reihill, very nice guy, I expect them to successfully grow the business internationally, unlike Donedeal.
