First Time Hol - First Time Fly With Ryanair

    Hi there,

I’ve booked a summer holiday for next month for myself and my OH. We haven’t got away in years and the last holiday we were on was booked with Budget Travel – this time we’ve decided to book it ourselves.

The cheapest flights I could get to my destination was with Ryanair (surprise surprise) and I have a couple of questions as I’ve never flew with Ryanair before.

    1. Online check-in: I assume that once you check in online that you longer go to a check in desk – with your passport. But we have luggage(2 cases) to be checked in (put in the hold) how do we check this in??

    2. I’ve heard the terminal for the Ryanair flights are a long way away and it takes ages to get to. Should we be leaving extra time for this??

    3. Is there anything else we should know about flying with Ryanair? We aren’t expecting much, just to get there and no more!

    Any help greatly appreciated.

    1. Online check-in: I assume that once you check in online that you longer go to a check in desk – with your passport. But we have luggage(2 cases) to be checked in (put in the hold) how do we check this in??

Answer: You still have to do your online check in and print out your boarding pass at home or in your workplace. Online check in is open 2 week before departure date. On the day of departure, proceed to the airport about 2 hour before departure time. proceed to the bag drop desk in Area 7 or 8 to drop your baggage(just hand in your boarding pass to the check in agent).

    2. I’ve heard the terminal for the Ryanair flights are a long way away and it takes ages to get to. Should we be leaving extra time for this??

Answer: Most Ryanair Flight leave from Gate 100s therefore it take about 15min walk from the check in desk.

    3. Is there anything else we should know about flying with Ryanair? We aren’t expecting much, just to get there and no more!

Answer: Expect long queue at the gate depend on the load of the flight. If you paid for piority boarding then piority group will boards first and pick your seat. You can pick any seat once you board the plane. If you want to seat together then be at the gate early and join the queue. Make sure your cabin bag fit to ryanair size and only once piece of cabin bag so that mean you have a hand bag, camera bag dutyfree bag and the back pack then you have to fit them all into the back pack otherwise you will ask to fit them all into one bag or bag wont travel.

On board: everything have to be paid for except for toliet. there is food available to buy, there range of hot food and cold food but they are rip off. So consider a buying a meal deal in Boot in the airport after the security and it a great value. Otherthing the seat wont recline on most ryanair so it will be alway upright.

    Hope this help

Watch your luggage weight,(15kg) it's not that much for a holiday.
Cabin luggage restrictions are enforced rigorously.

Remember to print out your boarding cards when you check in online for BOTH the outward and the inward flights. if you cannot print the inward one, you need to visit an internet cafe during your holidays and print it there (there will be a small charge by the internet cafe for this).

If you like to mention where you are going, boardies might have tips on getting from the airport to the resort.

The short(ish) answer is that you check your bags in at what (for all intents and purposes) is a check-in desk. It will say "bag-drop" instead of "check in" but they are the same old desks with the same people behind them.

Here's a few hints and tips from observations over the years -
    * do not bring a large case as the temptation is always going to be there to fill it. When you get to the airport with your full, heavy, large suitcase the Ryanair people will laugh heartily and start adding up all the commission they are going to get from your excess charges. You will spend a lot of money and you will spend a lot of time (probably in a hot airport, with boarding time approaching) in queues.
    * don't try to squeeze two peoples clothes into one large suitcase - they don't care how many people are travelling, all they care about is that your limit is 15kg.
    * make the most of your carry-on allowance - I can't remember whether it's 7kg or 10kg these days but fill your bag (within the allowable dimensions) with all sorts of things touse up that weight if your suitcase is near/over limit.
    * if you can/want to - go out with one carry no bag and bring a spare carry on bag (like a backpack with nothing in it) in your luggage. This way you will know that you have at least an extra 7kg allowance for your return trip. Meaning - if you go out with your entire carry on and check in allowance used up and all bags full you won't be able to bring a single extra thing home. Packing an empty bag is a good way to make sure you have spare allowance for the return trip.

Looking at the above, this sounds quite scary, but in reality it's all plain sailing as long as you stay within weights and dimensions.

To be honest Ryanair are fine, though you may not get sitting beside you OH due to the seating arrangements. As long as you're sensible about luggage and print your pass out you'll be fine
