Unless they get a diesel out soon this will be another misjudged attempt.
Nobodys gonna buy that yoke anyway.

How many people bought the current proton range, which I would say is pretty comparable. Handling by lotus, revvy engines, questionable styling, dodgy past, built for a different continent in a different continent.

    I like the exterior
Interior isnt great....looks like a cheapish Korean.
What price bracket is it does anyone know?

You could get a new turbo for €17500 in the uk, I'd estimate vrt at €6500 (band e) so €24000-€24500 should cover it.

    Tax would be €600 pa

It loos very eastern now...like a mazda 6

pity they moved away from the rover 75 look

not many people would touch that!

It's a confused car - the front looks like a Hyundai and the back looks like a Mazda. IMHO, it does look fairly bland. The alloys on the blue one are nice, interior isn't too bad at all compared to the MGs of the 00's.

That was my initial thought. Mixture of a passat and a mazda 6, especially the first two pics.

    +1

    Very underestimated car.

I had a 1.8k 75 before, i'm regretting getting rid of it now. Thinking of buying a diesel 75 again.

I'd like one but they are making a mess of the advertising campaign.

They launched it on FACEBOOK FFS about 2 months ago.

The thread is here somewhere created by me

I actually quite like the exterior styling of this yoke tbh! Really though, the lack of a diesel is unacceptable at this stage and to go with the it the running costs of the only petrol engine are very high. In this country i'd be amazed if even one of these is registered

I liked the Rover 75 look as well, but it was the main factor that killed the car.

Diesel engines are coming, they just won't be available upon launch.

Think of this as the first entry into the European market by the Chinese. MG is a totally new brand this time which has very little relation to the cars of old.

It will be a big step too. AFAIK it is a Chinese built and designed unit with development work done in the UK

For some reason they abandoned the unlaunched G-series engine which was fully developed

Nice car, does definitely have a look of a Mazda about it but Mazda styling in my opinion has always been sporty and appeals to a lot of people. Now if MG can get the reliability up to the Mazda standard and price the cars keenly, with a great warranty...well I reckon they are on to a winner.

UK is 3 year warranty only so i doubt it will be any better here

Would you actually buy one if you had 25k in your fist?
    I certainly wouldn't.

Then its going to come down to price and reliability. They are relaunched as a new brand so if they want to reel in some customers they are going to have to compete against well established, tried and trusted manufacturers, especially their ultra reliable neighbors the Japanese, who lets be honest make the most reliable cars in the world.
If they nail value for money and reliability and customer service on the head, then reputation will grow and more customers will follow.
I'd drive that car if I knew it was good value for money and wouldn't break my heart and wallet with repair bills.
I've aways liked MG cars and I hope the sport models look as good as some of the previous models such as the ZS, ZT, and TF

New brand indeed but that 1.8 engine is very much a K series in all but name :) Here is what the sporty one will look like.........

Note, side repeaters wont be here as UK versions have them in the mirrors.

25k isn't competitive or keen enough for me so no I would rather buy a Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart model for that sort of money, but thats just my own preference :D Even the standard model is 6k cheaper at 19k

Much better, I do hope they do something with that ugly matt black spoiler on the back of it...at least color code to the car and as for the K-series engine...well that was very hit and miss with Rover. It was like playing Russian Roulette, you either got a good one or a bad one where the head gasket went and cost you a pretty penny to fix. I hope they had the sense to resolve any reliability problems associated with the K-series engine as if not then their reputation won't be long sinking.

The interior is like something from a Kia or Hyundai of 5 years ago

The exterior is odd looking from some angles, not too bad from others.

I could think of plenty of better uses for 25k.
