Online Shopping Software

    Hi Guys,

Wanted to get some feedback from people who had done some research into online shopping cart software.

At the moment I am a bit unsure what is the best package available out there. We have looked at a few different ones, including ZenCart, Magento, and PrestaShop.

TBH presta shop is the one that has the most attraction, as the default skin it is built in with is good enough to use out of the box, to get you up and running. ZenCart looks looks quite dated and after playing around with magento it looks like I would need a full time IT person to get it up and running.

Just wondering what you experiences are, or if you used something else entirely?

Im in the same boat as you and the problem i guess is that im spoiled for choice and its hard to just settle on one product. I used the magento 30 trail store which was nice and had a lot of features in the back end. Zencart doesnt look pretty i know but its a solid system that works well. Also you can always make your own theme to make it look a million times better. I havent used prestashop yet but heard that theres no sagepay connection with it so that why i havent looked into it. Now unless thats changed im not sure.

The process wouldn;t be so hard if i just wanted a store and nothing else but im looking to integrate wordpress in the site which is proving to be a problem

I am using zencart at the moment .
I know it looks dated but once you get a template ( there are 1000's ) it looks great.
I went to www.hostso.ie , They do my hosting and you can install zencart through their control panel.
Just taught I would give you my opinion

Personally if I was setting up an online store I would save myself the hassle and expense of using shopping cart software – I’d just start off with http://www.shopify.com

Depends on what you are selling, the value and number of transactions etc – but it can be a fantastic solution to get a decent shop up very quickly at low cost. They take a transaction fee but with the money you are saving in the first place should counter it easily for quite a while.

We use Vp-Asp for 3 sites and find it very good and most importantly upgradeable as you get busier http://www.vpasp.com/

In my Opinion Shopping Carts are one area of web design where Flash outdo's HTML most of the time.

I looked at most of the HTML Carts out there and wasn't impressed by them.

    Google Flash Shopping Carts.

    Google Flash Shopping Carts.

Would that not seriously reduce the SEO capability of the Store ??

Flash precludes most of your potential customers, and also anyone with an iDevice (ipad, iphone, etc).

    Get

    Zen Cart
    Magento
    Prestashop

These are the 'big three' in my opinion, and the basis of most large, stable ecommerce platforms you see online.

Eh No........... because Flash is embedded into HTML pages and the rest of the website can be designed in HTML.

Just take a look at the big boys like Amazon, you won't find Flash. Google hates flash and in ecommerce google is one of your best friends.

I use CRE Loaded, find it great. I built a design to go with it but was not an easy job first time around.

If you have a supplier, ask them if they have an system of stock control which you can link to. Drop-shipping companies would sometimes do this and it would mean you don't need a warehouse and as products are out of stock in their system your system would get updated when they update their system because of a linked database system (the link is ONLY for their stock and not your customers information).
