    Depends on

when it was on, if it was clashing with Octocon or any of the other anime/gaming conventions.

Where it was on, how out of the way or hard to get to.

What was on, what panels, movies, guests, events were running at it.

    Currently in Ireland we have

    Ocotcon running over 20 years.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octocon

Irish discworld convention in it's second year
    http://idwcon.org/

    3 anime cons
    http://eirtakon.com/ in it's 7th year
    http://www.nom-con.net/ in it's 2nd year
    http://the-arcade.ie/convention/ starting up

And more blended cons anime, scifi and gaming

    http://brocon.skynet.ie/
    http://www.q-con.org.uk/
    http://www.warpcon.com/

And then there are 5 other gaming conventions who also do screenings and depending on the intrest.

So yes there are a lot of people who go to scfi/gaming/anime cons in the country.
If you can offer something different and intresting people will go to it.

Think Octocon does a great job already! There's also P-Con which focuses on the writing side of things as well. As Sharrow says, it'd depend on the angle - it'd have to be something specialist, there's a lot out there already!

Actually, for 2012 there is a con less than 3 hours away. the SFX Weekender run by SFX magazine is moving to Prestatyn in Wales in February 2012. Only a 2 hour boat and 45 minute train ride to join 3000+ people. www.sfxweekender.com

Woah, way down the bottom of that list
Peter F Hamilton - Top SF author of the Void and Commonwealth series.

Legend! Wonder will he be giving a lecture or taking questions or anything
