Op.Cast Lead: Col. Desmond Travers vindicated

In a surprisingly bitter anti-Irish tirade in the Irish Times yesterday the Israeli Ambassador singled out Col. Desmond Travers for particular criticism. The ambassador claimed that the Goldstone Report was rushed and biased.

A year after the report was published Col.Travers has written an excellent article in the

Irish Defence Review 2010


Col.Travers claims that he would not change any of the findings of the Report and in respect of the Israeli Dahiya Doctrine which Israel now uses as a justification for targeting civilians he actually goes further than the Goldstone Report and names two Israeli generals, Yadlin and Eisenkott who formulated and are now the main advocates of the doctrine.

All credit to Col.Travers and everyone associated with this fine journal at the Irish Department of Defence for their tenacity and courage in seeing this seminal article debunking the Dahiya Doctine published. I have no doubt that it will be required reading at the best military academies worldwide for many years to come and will also no doubt feature at the International Criminal Court at The Hague where Generals Yadlin and Eisenkott will have an opportunity to defend their position.

No doubt BOAZ MODAI is probably quite a common name in Israel- rather like Pat Murphy in Ireland- and the Boaz Modai mentioned below accused of harrasing a female employee at the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs is not His Excellency, the esteemed Israeli ambassador to Ireland.

Boaz Modai, Head of the Instruction Branch in the Foreign Ministry, admitted to harassing a woman in his office, police told Ynet Wednesday.

The man's former employee submitted a complaint to Jerusalem police, after receiving late-night hang-ups from an unidentified phone number for several weeks.

Police opened an investigation and discovered that the anonymous caller was Modai. According to one police source, he admitted to the calls, explaining that the woman had spread a rumor that he had been having an affair.
