Boundary Fencing

    Hi All

Just wondering about boundary fencing between two sites.
Just finishing building at the moment and heard that it was up to me to look after the boundary between the house on the right hand side of me, and that neighbour to look after the boundary on the right hand side of him. Is this a legal thing or just a good practise thing in Ireland? Or does any boundary be done 50/50 between both parties?

    Any help would be appreciated

    Thanks
    JB

There are no hard and fast rules here, normally it is written into the contract on purchase, check with your solicitor.

    Hi

Hoping someone here can help me. We are hoping to erect a fence on both sides of our garden. And are happy to do it at our expense.
We have already contact one neighbour who admits it makes sense for us to build it ON the boundary instead of UP to the boundary.
It will mean however uprooting all the shrubbery and plants.

My question now is, if we are erecting the fence what is the legislation surrounding how. In terms of the smooth pretty side of the fence, does that have to face to my neighbours side or can I have it facing into my garden.

I'm asking as we have had issues in the past with the supports of another garden wall, whereby they were built facing into our side, even though it was not our wall. I understand that this is not permitted.

So is it the same with the fence?

(Assuming the fence being constructed doesn't need planning permission)
If you are constructing the boundary fence ON the boundary as agreed between yourself and your neighbour, then the finish and side the posts are on should also be decided between both of you.

Whatever you end up doing, agree it before starting works, that way everyone stays friends.

If you are constructing the fence on your side of the boundary you can face it any way you please.

Since it is a boundary fence why not choose something which is the same both sides.

Take it in 6 inches onto your land. Its not a boundary fence then you can do whatever you like! :D
