He's been playing some great stuff for Reading this season. Is it too late for a comeback into the international fold? Surely a better option at LB than Kilbane at this stage?

Yep why not. Least he deserves is place on bench.

Too late I'd say. Even when he was in the squad his set peices covered up the fact he wasn't that solid at the back.

    He's not that old even.

19 goals last season and I think his goal tonight takes him to 12 so far this season. Remarkable.

Not a hope Trap is gonna play Harte left back. Defensively hes not the best and trap wont call him up for this reason.

Pity though, his set piece is first class.

And Kilbane is 34. Plus Hartey plays in a league higher than Kilbane.

If we made the Euro's he would be a couple of months off 35. Old for a player that has been exiled for years now. I thought Harte was a good player for Ireland but that was around 10 years ago. Have we regressed that far that he needs to be called up?

Comparing him to Kilbane isn't much of an argument either. Surely one the younger players can do a job for us, for now and the future?

It feels like he should be older though.

Has anyone actually watched Ian Harte play recently? If you thought he was slow before, he has actually lost pace since then. The difference between the standard of full backs in the Premier League and the Championship is huge. Remember, Paul Mcshane was voted club club player of the season when he played at right-back during the WBA promotion season a few years back. When he stepped up to the Premier League, he was destroyed because he like Harte has no pace whatsoever.

    Why, did Rooney shag him?

Assuming O'Shea and Foley are both fit, Kilbane will not be starting a competitive match for us, possibly ever again.

He was absolutely gash at Sunderland.

I haven't seen him play much since then at all so can't really comment, but fair play to him if he's doing well. I've always liked him to be honest.

He would still be a great man to have on the bench for late in a game where a team is sitting back defending against us and you are likely to get a couple of free kicks around the box.

What about Stephen Carr who has been excellent for Birmingham for two seasons now? I know he retired a couple of years ago but he would be well worth a place in the squad if he was interested again.

I follow Reading so I have been monitoring Harteys progress this year. There is no doubt that he has been one of the success stories of the year for us. That was his 10th league goal last night, and I would estimate he has supplied another 10 goals with his set-piece deliveries.

However- as mentioned, he can be easily caught out by a pacy winger. McDermott has left him out against the teams who play that way. On the international stage though you can't really take chances so I really doubt we are going to see him at this stage.

If he was playing this well a couple of years ago he could have been involved in home games against the 'smaller' nations. But not now.

But Trap plays Kilbane ffs! Amongst a group of other jokers, Harte definitely worth a look, although it just won't happen.

What I meant was that if Harte had put himself in a position to be involved for the last few years (á la Kilbane) then perhaps he would still be involved now.

Kilbane has been putting in the shifts for years now, and I think there is a lot of sentiment attached to Trap picking him. He will be around the squad until the end of this campaign one way or another!
