They take all your personal details and a copy of your passport.
You have to fill out some paperwork to say you've never been married before or provide details of your divorce etc if you have. Its no big deal, takes about 15 mins. They should have given you a list of all the paperwork you have to bring with you.

Jaysus, it's not an interrogation :D

For two Irish/EU citizens, it's primarily an exercise in form-filling and discussing your wedding plans with the registrar. The registrar isn't going to grill you to find out if it's a genuine wedding, they'll presume it is.

If one or both parties are non-EU, I imagine there are few more hoops and question to jump through.

Just make sure you organise your appointment well in advance....

I was calling the office in lombard street in dublin for 3 weeks on and off and couldn`t get through! My OH finally got through yesterday and was told there were no appointments available until after may! We`re getting married in september and I have to travel with work in May/June so my OH went on the warpath and managed to get an appointment this month.....

The full list of documents required are listed here:

Its not a big deal at all! You just bring your PPS no and your passport. You fill in a form that looks for address and church details but thats it. I wasn't asked anything about my job. Its just a standard form.
