trying to get sigma 24-70mm f 2.8DG for 500D

    Just got a Canon 500D with Ef-S 18-55 IS kit
    but need something to take photos of bands etc where I can't use a flash.someone recommended to get the sigma anyone know where there might be one going cheap
    any help greatly appreciated:confused:

    This doesn't answer your specific question, but for gig shots where no flash is permitted, the Canon 50mm f1.8 is really popular and readily available for under a hundred bills online.

    +1 on the 50, or if you have a few more quid to spare, the 85mm f/1.8 is well worth a look. I sold the 85 I had in order to trade up to a 70-200mm f/2.8, and 2.8 forces me deep into high ISO territory indoors.

    Sigma 17-70 is the most used lens for me too. I would love to replace it with a Canon L some day, but for now, this is perfectly adequate.

    thanks for all the help gang,trying to find a 85mm,just forund an old canon EF 50mm canon 1:1.8 II on my dads old EOS 650 this any good on my new camera?also is the sigma worth getting for what i need?

    Ive a sigma 28-70 f/2.8 which ie excess to requirements but its in Sligo. The 50 would work brilliantly when you need that extra stop.

    if your cropped sensor then get a 17-55 2.8 before anything else, you'll really appreciate the focal range!
