iPod Touch backlight problem

Sorry if this was covered previously but did a search and couldn't find anything.

The backlight has gone completely on my iPod Touch (32g, 3rd gen I think).

I plugged the iPod into my iPad dock to charge the other night. When I pulled it out, the backlight had gone completely. I tried going into settings to turn it on/off and change brightness etc, but the screen just won't light up. It's almost impossible to use.

I've tried resetting all settings (but not full wipe) and updating the system software, but to no avail.

I'm not sure if it had anything to do with the iPad dock or if it's just a coincidence.

Is it fixable or is it completely banjaxed?

Is it hard to install? Would it cost much to drop it in some where, and if not know anybody in Dublin city centre who would do it?

You shouldn't be quoted any more than €50. Its not that hard to do. Try ifixit.com for a tutorial.

Is it still under warranty (less than a year old)?
