Online PC Doctor Scam - a question if you've received a call

Just got another call from these jokers (third one). This time on my unlisted UPC number. (the other two were on a company paid for eircom line).

However, this time they specifically asked for my wife by name, which they didn't do before. They had her first name, don't know if they had her surname.

We're both named on the UPC account so I don't think it's anything to do with that.

Spoke with my wife after & she said that she was contacted by play.com a short while ago to let her know that their database had been hacked but payment details were not compromised, so it would be interesting to find out if any who received calls were play customers.

If you received a scam call from the "Online PC Doctor" Were you a customer of Play? 40 votes

I did not receive a call. WTF are you talking about?

have fun with them and pretend you're someone completely different. or tell them you're just going to get some details and play some loud obnoxious music down the phone, or porn. see how long it takes for them to hang up.

record, put on youtube, great success.

I'm not a play.com customer and I had a call from the arseholes a couple of days ago. A barely understandable oriental person told me that he was from the Dublin computer maintenance department. When I said "oh, the scammers?" he hung up.

Your wife is obviously cheating on you with a telescam operator.

When I got a call from these fuckers they hung up on me because I only responded in obscenities.

I've had four calls from these guys.

The first time, I told them I was a linux user.

The second, I had some fun. (The guy I was talking to has a pre-rehearsed script, he doesn't handle it well when you force him off his script.:D)

The third time - he caught me in a bad mood, so he didn't get a polite response.

The fourth time he was told bluntly not to call my number again.............

I think he's probably stupid/persistent enough to try again, though.

The real issue in this thread is how to get the most fun out of these fuckers. More ideas please

I've been getting calls from them at least once a month for well over a year now. I just take the piss at this stage. No amount of cursing or threats will get them off your case so you may as well too, plus it's kind of funny when "John McClane" or "Peter Jackson" calls.

I'm fond of calling out stupid credit card numbers to them and waiting for their reaction when they say them back.

Zero, tewlve, thirty four, fifty six and so on. The fecker practically cries when he realises he's calling out one to 16.

Commenting on how you think porn from their country is by leaps and bounds the best due to the horribly filthy nature of their women gets a good reaction too not to mention how well phone sex attempts work.

I've had dozens of calls from these scammers sometimes three a day, and I've adopted every approach from stringing them along to putting the phone down. It must be worth their while because I have found no way to stop them ringing. There has been at least a couple of other threads on this same topic

Most of these calls reportedly originate from India.

For time number 5 put on a Pakistani accent and start babbling incoherently about our glorious bombs being a gift from Allah to vaporise the infidels

Got a call earlier. Heavy African type accent. (Wish) It went something like this.

"Der is somting rong with yor computah. De magic box dat sits in de cornah or cornahs of rooms in your house or houses. We believe it is the work of som evil spirit or possibly a powerful sorcerer who is nearby. Please furnish us with yor most sensitive financial details and we will dispatch our best witchdoctor to ease you of yor troubling woes."

Tell them "its from all this beastiality porn on the pc. Fecking dog is always on it during the night. Neuturing did nothing. Blocked sites did nothing. The crafty bastard sneeks in and downloads the stuff."

My son answered the phone to them the last morning. He was late for work, and knew that I had told them not to call again - so he told them to F**k off.......

Strangely, the foreign accent changed to an outraged Irish "Hey! You can't....." just before he banged the phone back on the receiver..

    Go figure!

If you head into Woodies (disclosure: I work there) you can get a small adapter for your phone cable that allows you to record calls to an external device. Most likely available in most hardware / phone stores / pc world, etc.

Record any calls you get from these asswipes, get them talking for a while, turn a copy over to the gardai.

After that, take your copy, splice together a few funny sentences and play it back to them in their own voice next time they call!

I wish they'd ring me...would have some laugh at their expense.

My friend told them that there is no problem with him computer and that he knows this is a scam and the Indian sounding girl on the phone went mental at him "WHO TOLD YOU THIS? THIS IS NO SCAM? YOUR COMPUTER IN DANGE-" (hangs up phone)

    Idiots.

Not a very meaningful poll if it doesn't indicate what percentage of people who haven't received calls.
