Hi, I'm a first year law student and I'm looking to buy a book on torts, but I'm stuck trying to decide between McMahon and Binchy's book and Quill's book. I know McMahon and Binchy is the seminal textbook, but Quill is more up to date. Does anybody have any suggestions? Thanks!

Hi I found Quill to be pretty good - it gets to the point and has the most up to date case law. While McMahon and Binchy is excellent and incredibly comprehensive it is also very expensive and you will be sure to find plenty of copies of it in your college library anyway.

I've heard Quill is a bit impenetrable so I'd stick with McMahon & Binchy. No harm to pick up a nutshell and have a run through it before you get stuck into the big texts.

McMahon & Binchy is hands down a better book. Quill seems like it's trying too hard IMO.

Quill isn't fit to lace the boots of McMahon & Binchy. Even though bit older it's hands down a better book, no comparison and if and when you practice law you will use it. You couldn't say that about quill's book.

When I did tort Binchy recommended Quill's book but after reading both I would definately go with McM & B.
