Problems with upgradeing galaxy s firmware

Hey guys Having some trouble upgrading this phone to 2.2 with kies when i plug in the phone kies finds the phone just fine i can move music videos back up etc but once it starts to download and install the update kies will lose connection with the phone try and install drivers and just lock itself into a never ending cicle…

You fine gents have any experience with fix's for this issue? its a fine fine phone but it seems really left down by this software/my stupidity

im useing 64 bit windows 7
