Changing Course - Grant?

    Hey,

Im currently in first year of a level 8 degree course but want to change to a totally different course in September (i.e. Drop out and re-apply through CAO).

I did not qualify for any sort of grant for the current college year and paid the €1500 tuition fee myself.
I do believe that I would be eligible for a grant in 2011/2012 though.

My question is: Would I be able to get the grant for next year and have my registration fee paid for the first year of the new course? since I never got a grant before.

I do realise that I'll have to pay full tuition fees for first year of the new course.

    Thanks

    Thanks

think you contradicted yourself there a bit?

    your in first year now...
    you want to drop out..

you want to apply through the CAO for another course and start first year.

    thats all fine.

you did not receive a grant at all before.. ever.

If you never got a grant, and you think you will be elligable for one, then apply for it.
If you are succesful, then you will get your fee's paid and what ever payment they award you, you will get for all the years you are in college (be it 3 or 4 years).

this is based on your income + parents income if your not fully independant student.

Whoops, I meant to say registration fee.. I've since fixed my post.

Nope, I got no grant whatsoever for 2010/2011 due to being VERY slightly above the income band, this year I would fall into one of the bands eligible for a grant.

Im just wondering whether the fact that I've already done one year of college affect my application.

Since you never claimed a grant or fee's then it should not prevent your application being sucesful.

However, the rules are set to change once again this year, so best keep an eye on what changes occour and what stipulations they put in place.
