Its a lovely course,it helps if its a fine day as the scenery around it is beautifull. The actual course itself has a few tough holes especially on a windy day but all Links courses do but its still worth a play.

I stay in Clifden twice a year to play Connemara (Ballyconneely) - playing in their open week next Thursday & Friday. It's a lovely course with beautiful secnery. Definitely worth a visit,

Have played it a few times and think it's overrated, it's a nice course but nothing special and a bit featureless. The last few closing holes are nice, finishes with two par 5s.

I know what you mean about 'featureless' - it certainly looks bland to the eye on the opening nine holes. It's very flat, but that hides a certain terror if the wind picks up at all, and it embraces the heart of links golf: bump and run.

The back nine gets much more interesting: 12-14 are great holes, and the back to front, double par five finish means the wind will be both cruel and kind.

    Some pictures of Connemara links

The drive up and the clubhouse (views) really build the anticipation.

I played it (very badly) once a couple of years ago and I would have to agree somewhat with the "featureless" comment. Despite this, as Kevin says, it is a links course and the views out to sea are spectacular.

There are some wonderful holes on it, not least of which is the 18th in my humble opinion, and I also quite liked the first (probably because I managed to par it!!!)

I look forward to playing it again at some stage, although the next links I'm probably going to get to is Waterville - now, there's a course!!

Whilst everyone is singing the praises of the back nine, I'll put in a shout for the par-3 sixth and par-4 eighth, both excellent holes.

    I love the place.

Everthing about this place appeals to me. The course, the people, the seafood chowder and obviously the pints.

Like any links, if the wind does not blow it has lost its biggest defence. But because the rough is not as penal as that on many of the other links this makes Conemara so much more playable for your average golfer.

If you have not played it you really should. Its not the best links in the country but it is certainly worth a visit.

Ballyconneely is a bit of a hidden gem if you ask me, probably because it's a bit far away from a big centre of population. On a calm day can be very enjoyable and playable with beautiful scenery even on your way to the course!! On a windy day it can be brutally tough. I take some of the points that the front nine is a bit featureless but look at St. Andrews, not a feature in sight anywhere but still a fantastic place.

Spot on, these two holes are the only good ones on the front nine, but they are very good. There are some awful holes on the first nine, 1st, 3rd, 4th for instance. The back nine is very nice, lots of good holes, some beautiful sports. They have a third nine which I have never played.

The C 9 "3rd 9" is really where the better golf is played, I personally find it the most enjoyable as it challenges you, Saying that the 13th is my favourite hole

I played it off the back sticks a good few years ago on a very windy day and it was absolute murder.
I couldnt reach a good few of the par 4's in two shots and I was hitting 3 wood to alot of par 3's.
Its probably the toughest round of golf I have ever played .
