I was just wondering whether, realistically, it would be possible to do Engineering without having done physics at leaving cert level?

I have regreted not doing it for a while as Maths is probably my strongest subject and I have heard it plays quite a central role.

I'm doing Chemistry and Biology for the leaving if that helps.

    Thanks in advance.

Not doing engineering, but to be honest I'd say Applied Maths is the subject you'd need for engineering.
Did both of them for the LC (Applied Maths is waaaay easier, IMO), and physics is mostly theory, very little maths, and even then the maths is simple.

If you apply for Engineering, after the LC I'd recommend reading the book "Fundamental Applied Maths" by Oliver Murphy.

You don't need to have done physics in the leaving for engineering, although it would be somewhat helpful for the first couple of weeks. There are a number of topics not covered by LC physics that we cover, but having maths as your strong subject will be a pretty decent advantage. I didn't do chemistry for my leaving, and needless to say i was quite lost with it, so it would be helpful to have a background in it. though, the same can be said for any subject that has a basis in engineering

Your grand if your good at maths!!

Physics is certainly a good advantage but nothing essential!

i had the same subjects choosen as you. It is harder without physics...the amount of times your friends will say sure its easy its just leaving cert stuff will make ya wanna hit them...but you can still do it...i did im currently sittin my finals...i'd say of you're worried bout it get the physics for dummies book...i did and it really was kinda helpful...or maybe a leaving cert physics book annd just have it to refer to if you get lost...dont let it put you off it really is a good course...just wwork that we bt harder at the physics and you'll be grand :)

In engineering in TCD at the moment. Physics is not a must have but it does help. I did Physics for the LC but I didn't do Chemistry, so I found the Chemistry aspect very difficult. It all evens out at the end of the day. Like you said, you are good at Maths and so you will have no problem at all.
