My old HP XP machine is with a new owner who only has dial-up. 59 updates required. On line for 2 hours and the download % never moved on from 16% downloaded.

    1. Can I download each update and install it seperately? My laptop is Win7.

    2. If so is there a way to get each update to load/run (example: a folder where they could be dropped into)?

Any other info would be greatfully appreciated.

there are third party update rollups available

not the best but should find some updates you need

and yes windows update doesn't always work and you may need to clear out the cache :(

You can pick up individual updates from the Microsoft Update Catalog and install them standalone.

You also have the option on XP of going to the Windows Update site and selecting Custom. You can then opt to install individually or in smaller batches.

I use this, regularly updated, and carried around on a USB stick.

    +1 on this.

We use this, and we've got a good few air gapped systems

Am I correct in thinking the following:

    1. I download version 6.8.6
    2. Run UpdateGenerator.exe on my computer choosing the XP option ( for the old computer).
    3. Save the file to a memory stick
    4. Take the memory stick to the old computer and run updateInstaller.exe
    5. I will now have the most up-to-date version of XP on the old computer?

Or is there more to this .......
