    Hi Folks,

Just moved here recently to the West of Ireland and was wondering if somebody could give me the name of a Christian Church in Galway city or county?

I've heard good things about these folks: http://www.discoverychurchireland.com/

    There's a few good Churches.
I go to Discovery Church, and really like the place.

I'd also recommend Galway Christian Fellowship, but it's an older group.

I'm sure there are other good churches in the city too.

Discovery meet on sundays at 10am at the westwood hotel.

Awsome thanks! We are living near Oranmroe/Maree so a church near by or on the East Side of the city would work best. We love many things about our new home but traffic and driving on the wrong side of the highway are not some of them!:eek:

I will 'GOOGLE' and see what I come up with, if you have any further information please let me have it

Well we have a lot of people who come to us from Athenry/Maree/Clarinbridge and further and on a sunday its only an extra 5 minutes across the bridge and down the newcastle road from the east side. But GCF have 2 churches, one in Salthill and the other out ballybrit direction.

Personally, I'd go to Discovery if I was you, I'm not saying we're better than GCF or anything, I just like the feeling of Discovery.

    Thanks again.

Somebody else mentioned another church near Ballybritt Racecourse. Do you know which one they might mean? It was not the GCF as I would remember this one.

I think I know the church you are talking about but I dunno if I'd recommend it to you.

What is your church background, what kind of churches did you normally go to? Are you a member of any denomination?

I used to go along to 'Hope' Christian Church in DC.

I just found a link on the net to some disturbing postings regarding the other church that was mentioned to me.

I wonder if this is the same church we are talking about?

Abundant Life wouldn't be my cup of tea (too 'health and wealth' oriented for my taste) but I do have to wonder about those like dialogueireland whose "ministry" is to set up a blog finding fault with everyone else.

I was taking some of the points with a pinch of salt but some of the postings by ex-members are not good. Reading between the feedback you guys have given and some of the questions raised I think I will stay clear of this one.

Discovery does not seem to show up on this website anywhere which is a very good thing :)

I don't want to say negative stuff about any other church and I like the people at Abundant Life, but I wouldn't go there. That's all I will say.

PDN pretty much summed it up.

    STACEC

Go here if you get a chance and ask the staff about the churched in town, its a non-denominational ministry with staff from catholic, penetcostal and other churches around the town.

    http://www.antobarnua.com/

It's a cafe on lower Dominick Street.

    it's closed for 2 weeks from sunday but it's usually open tuesday - saturday 10:30 - 5.

I don't want to put down a church either and doing so goes against my beliefs. I do know of churches in the US that are based on the belief system this church seems to be based on and it usually ends in tears.

I did contact the church in question and the person I talked with did not mention any of the other churches like you guys did. I mentioned some of them and we had a few minutes of _________ silence. I think I have enough information at this point.

Seanhe - thanks for the link - it looks awsome but it does looks like a younger crowd than my more mature years :D The GCF looks more the age group for me.

The cafe gets a very mixed crowd.

It's insane from 1-2 tuesday - friday with school kids though.

Saturdays are very relaxed in there and every day after 2 is fine.

Try out GCF and a few other churches and find the which is the best fit for you.
    That's my advice.

    There's also Covenant Fellowship Galway.

    www.covenantfellowshipgalway.ie

They have a solid teaching ministry, and have been around for a good number of years.

They run Aisling Bookshop in the centre of the city.

We went along to one of the churches mentioned (actually by mistake, it is very near one of the other churches we meant to attend).

We got talking to some of the folks afterwards and a lady was very pushy/ direct in asking us to come along to an event with Jessie Duplantis. I tried to be polite and let her know we were new in town and wanted to go along to a few churches.

The alarm bells were ringing straight away!!:mad:.

Jessie Duplantis is well known in the US to be all about money. I am surprised he is coming here. We won't be going back to this church or to the event in May.

I just wanted to give an update. We are going to go along to some of the other churches mentioned and see what works best for us.
