Is there any hope left?

It's hard to see how there's any hope left for this country. The economy is in freefall, having sustained damage equivalent to a war, and will continue to contract. The debt is unpayable due to declining internal market, sluggish international growth and demand, and the level of personal debt in the country. In terms of politics, we have a shower of halfwits in government, the former shower of halfwits make up the largest opposition grouping, while good left-wing parties like the ULA and SF are realistic on the need to default, but have serious organisational and strategical flaws which will hamper their growth and impact on their ability to put forward a clear alternative. There is also a clear and growing divide between the still well-off and the growing working poor and welfare class- one need only take a trip into the centre of our large towns and cities to see this. In turn, that inequality is speeding up the loss of social cohesion and breeding resentment among the young of my generation who face unemployment, emigration or dead end jobs, and those left behind by unemployment and poverty.

Does anyone else see any hope left? I think we're facing a future of drastically reduced living standards, including things like food shortages, power shortages etc. I'm disillusioned, and I think there's little left for us to look forward to.

I'm trying to be realistic here folks- the IMF revised our growth downwards today, and the new government has caved on burning the bondholders. That doesn't mean we have to go all Emo, I just think it's better to be realistic that the future holds little good for the country.

I think the country is still trying to digest all the recent developments , sort of like the quiet before the final storm but I'm sure comments are only slightly delayed ...
