    hey there,

i hope someone knows the answer to this.. i have a upc hd box and i recorded a couple of programs on espn classic which i would like to save on an external hard drive. there is a usb port on the box but it's the same as the laptop one so i would have to buy a male to male usb lead which i wouldn't mind at all but i just want to know if i can do it or is there any way of transferring the videos. any help would be appreciated.

Only way is playing it via scart and recoding using a TV or video encoding card of some description. USB port is not for use by UPC and not by the general public.

Indeed any other method involves breaking the conditional access system and you can't discuss it here.

Only way I know is to tune the UPC channel through a DVD recorder. Play what you have saved through the DVD channel and hit the "Record" button on the DVD. As with Sky, you have to watch what is being recorded. Do not change channels on the UPC box or you will record that channel!!!

The encryption is secure so I don't think there is any other method that would work anyway.

I think the answer was if there was another way we would not be allowed to talk about it here.

However there is no other way the files on the Disc are encrypted and no computer would be able to unscramble them as the encryption is secure.

UPC changed their encryption methods over a year ago.

All that's actually on the disc is the raw transport stream. When you play it back, it's decrypted using the conditional access and viewing card, just as if you watched it live. Therefore copying stuff off the HDD would be useless anyway.
