Audi A4 White 03 , buying advice

    Hi.

Im thinking of buying an Audi A4 03 in white with a black roof.
If I had loads of money i would 100% be buying the newer model but unfortunately the older one will have to do for now...

The only problem is, im not that fond of the front of the car,

Is it possible to buy a body kit for this car to make the front of the car look like the new model....

And if so would it be a ridiculous thing to do?

    Thanks for ye'r opinions..:D

Make sure you're getting a big discount for buying a white car, you might like the colour but unless it's a Golf GTI you'll get the cold shoulder if you try to trade it in at some point in the future and you'll also find it hard to shift in a private sale.

That said, for some reason the folks in Donegal seem to like white Audis.

Make sure you take it for a good spin & the cooling light doesn't come on!!

If it does walk away! (Wish I got this advice before I looked at one)

Can get various front lips for them but prefer the look from standard....

And white will be very hard keep clean & less resale value than other colours....

Heres a checklist you can use,if it doesn't make 80% of this criteria, walk away

    - over sized sun visors: the rule of 'felt states that the gap between the bottom of your sunvisor and the bottom of the windscreen should be equal to the distance between your wrist and your elbow. Some 'felters will also choose to incorporate a catchy slogan on their sun visor such as 'Drive her like yer late for mass' or 'driveher like its stolen'

    - wind deflectors: wind deflectors are a must on a 'felt spec car.The rule of 'felt states "he who tries to smoke a fag while crusing with 320 ft lbs of torque under the bonnet will get burnt"

    - Yellow rear reg plates: one of the most identifiable traits of a 'felt spec car even amongst their southern 'brothers in VAG',the most popular county for this is Donegal which believe it or not has more Yellow plates per head of population that London.

    - Lowered suspension: The more affluent 'felter will splash out on coilovers, but everyone this side of cloughjordan knows thats just crazy, take the springs out and cut them. The rule of 'felt states "thou shall not be able to see the tops of your tyres"

-Mud Flaps: Originally thought to have been an essential modification due to the farm based lifestyle of the original 'felters but now the first purchase any aspiring 'feltee should make, ditch the factroy flaps and and add scania flaps, the rule of 'felt states "Your flaps should be at all times in contact with the ground and that your tyres should last longer than your mudflaps)

-The 18" replica wheel:This is what sets the 'felter apart from the crowd, the choice of wheel is crucial in determining your status on the 'felt ladder of whack-ness,the popular choices have always been RS6 or A8 wheels (known amongst 'felters as an RS8 wheel,as apparently they are so close to the Audi inner circle that Audi let them see that holy grail of cars the Audi RS8 ). The more daring 'felt sec enthusiasts will fit a bolder wheel choice though and emerging favourites are new shape RS4 and S8 rims.Recently there has been a stunning development in the rim choice of 'felters with Merc rims appearing on VAG cars, this is a kin to Ian paisley attending an ulster final!

    - The body kit: No one knows the name, some say it is a quattro kit, some say it is an Rs4 kit, whatever the name the bodykit is essential in a 'felters arsenal especially if they are driving an A4,the rule of 'felt states "thou bodykit shall be fibre glass, thou grilles should be chicken wire and one exhaust tip should always be fake and for show"

    - Badge: The 'felter is only as big as his badge and the better the badge the bigger the micky,If you have an A4 you must stick on either an S4 badge,or an RS4 badge. The biggest offenders here are drivers of B6 A4's again here we see links between 'felt spec enthusiasts and the Audi inner circle as they and they alone were made aware of a B6 RS4.If you drive a golf then a GT badge is a must, there aint no party like a GT TDI party

    Yes it is a 1.9...

Im a 23 year old female and to be honest the size of the engine and all that stuff doesnt bother me.

I have wanted a white car for a long time and no matter how hard I try I cant seem to change from it.

I want a classy looking car it has to be white and preferable a coupe and no matter how much I look, any car i love is 20-30k

I only have a budget of 10k for this car....iv had a few cars but this is the first expensive one im buying so i want to be 100%.

Thanks for ye'r opinions, defiantly taking them on board.

I'm a serious Audi fan but if you're adamant on a white car, i'd go for the E46.

    Just google 'felt spec'.

That changes things ever so slightly...

The 2.5 TDi Engine makes it slightly less felt spec. If it had Quattro too then that would be an excellent buy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,992 ✭✭✭✭partyatmygaff

why, whats wrong with it?what is your Audi like?

At first, I thought it was one of those typical 1.9 TDi (;)) felt spec B6s that you see from time to time. But looking at it a bit more closely, it does appear to be fairly good.

    No RS4 badge
    6 Speed Transmission
    2.5 Engine
    Factory Sport Package

It's not a bad car by the look of it actually. I just prefer the B6 in other colours. The B8 in white looks brilliant however.

Won't a 2.5 in white make it very difficult to sell on?
€935 a year tax. Also is that roof really carbon fibre or just sprayed black?

Lol, on a 03 diesel A4?! What would you think ;)

Well whoever placed the advert claims carbon fibre roof and wing mirrors.

Who would devalue a car by spraying a red car white and black?

Stick a black roof on this

    http://www.carzone.ie/search/Toyota/Celica/Fresh-Nc/201113201800941/advert?channel=CARS

Plenty of cash left over and shouldn't be as hard to sell on this type of car in your preferred colour.

The a4 looks like a bargain beside that automatic jap import celica

2.5 lump on these Audi's isn't that good anyway.

OP, you say you want classy, look elsewhere tbh.

That A4 looks rough as a bears arse to me. Side skirts are terrible and rear kit seems to be a terrible fit. Left rear door seems to have a few bumps in it too.

Another white A4 for you there OP. If you still want the black roof then a carbon fibre wrap shouldnt be too pricey.

Is this car not a felt spec just as everyone above has been talking about...by the sounds of things i need to stay away from these.

Thanks everyone for your opinions, confused about the whole thing now again, some saying go for it, others saying not.

Would ye think different of the car if it was a different colour....apart from the colour would it be a good buy.

This is quite expensive and i didnt want to get near to ten k but if its a better buy then i wouldnt mind.

This is a 06 audi a4, what do ye think of this one.

It will be tough splitting with that kind of money though.

Why are you only looking at cars that are dropped so much that they are practically useless.

There is an A4 in my town, 06, black, spacers, lowered reasonably, A5 replica wheels, german plates, exhaust both sides, actually looks ok cruising around the town (if you are into that sort of thing). Anyway I came up behind him the other day on the road. First thing - I got a face full of diesel smoke and on the mayo roads, he was doing 50 mph and I got the feeling that he didnt fancy doing any more due to his setup.
The moral of the story - these cars are a joke and in many cases a danger due to idiots doing suspension mods.

Just buy this TT if you want a bit of class, they're a great looking car from factory, the interior is way nicer, and it'll get you noticed for the right reasons.

A knackermobile rs4tdi is this generations glanza, they're mostly driven by tools.

Add to the fact that the TT is a quattro, 225hp and cheaper to tax. You don't have to lie to your insurance company about modifications and its less likely to throw up problems from having the ring driven out of it.

Had a good look at the TT's and i'm very impressed, never looked at them before because never taut i could afford it. Delighted now.

Found up above a 01 Audi TT for 4,500 by lookin at all the others i think its quite reasonable.

Hear i go again though with my white. My da works in the motor factor industry so i can get it sprayed white for a good price ....Silly???

If not id splash out a bit more and buy a black one..

    What do ye think??

Thank you for helpin me make up my mind. :D

Now you are talking TT is the way to go leave those tarted up A4s alone.

Just make sure it has a full service history especially in relation to the haldex (the 4wd system) if the oil and filter hasnt been changed in this regularly or there is no evidence of it being ever changed then WALK AWAY.

What is yout obsession with white ? a full re spray is a serious job,a massive undertaking and if not done right will ruin the car and any potential resale chances.

My advice to you is drop this obsession with white and buy a nice well cared for example in original condition and then use the few quid you would have wasted on a respray to maybe buy a nice stereo and some nice wheels (not big reps but) maybe some of the nicer 17" or 18" genuine Audi rims from a higher spec TT,Golf,Bora etc.

Thank you for talking sense into me. I have spent alot of time over the past few weeks looking at cars, and i keep going from one thing to the next.

I have my mind made up now and im not changing it... Im going for the Audi TT in Black
Very impressed with boards, ye stopped me making a very silly decision.

    Thanks, much appreciated
