Has anyone heard of Blackstone tyres and are they any good? Looking at a secondhand Merc. C180 (private seller) which has two Bridgestone Potenzas up front with about 3mm tread (thanks for the free depth gauge Bridgestone ;) ) and two brand new Blackstones on the rear but I can't find anything on that brand, any feedback welcome.

If it makes any difference, I would do low mileage and I'm a fairly light driver, still on the original brake pads and tyres on my Golf GT with 52,000 kms on the clock.

Out of interest :) How deep is the thread on the back ones?

I think I know where you're coming from - is this the debate from another thread about how much tread is on a new tyre?

Didn't measure them, I could see that they were new so I didn't bother checking the depth.

Yeah, just wondering really is it close to 8mm on new ones :)

Surely what tyres are on the car aren't a huge factor in deciding to buy it or not?

the owner was getting ready to sell his or her car and the rear tyres needed changing, im guessing he spent as little as possible on them,

i wouldnt want some unknown brand of tyre on the rear of my rwd car, but thats just me

often the type of tyres on a car (obviously depending on what it is) give a decent insight into how much money has gone into general upkeep and maintenance overall.

for example if i was look at say a porsche 911 or a bmw m3 and the owner had fittend nangkang tyres id walk away

Very true but this is a C180. I reckon your right about them throwing on whatever was cheapest as they're selling it. Monst folks wouldn't pay much attention. If the car was priced right and was straight no way would I let the potentially sh1tty tyres put me off.

agree with you here, if it was something more exotic it would bother me more

Blackstone tyres have recently been imported by Atlas autoservice as an economy tyre alternative to the flood of chinese tyres on the market. Afaik no-one else imports them.

Blackstone is partly owned by the continental group and much of the design etc was done in conjunction with conti. They are manufacturered in eastern europe(can't remember where right now, I'll check a tyres tomorrow if needed).

    Hope that helps.
