Has anyone seen a 300c that is an umarked garda car. I was on the N4 in kinnegad and it was parked just off the link road to the motorway, a plainclothes guy was checking the flashing light out on it.

Prob Wasn't A REAL Garda Car, Could Have Been Someone With Lights & Sirens On Their Car......

What a random thread to bump. Doubt it'd be a genuine police car, likely just someone installed them in their car for a laugh.

I'd say it was a detective.

There used to be a 230SLK in Nenagh

There is an A4 08 C in Cork City, defo cops as I saw them pulling a lad on a Friday night in it. Think the cops are allowed to use some impounded cars now as official vehicles? Have some recollection of seeing where they were using some armored BMW from someone in Limerick or something? Sorry details are sketchy but some inkling in the back of my mind?

There was a 2002 C5 in Nenagh last week done up with lights and I passed a 2003 Focus hatch today with the lights flashing.

Lots of different cars out there. I've also spotted a Lexus and a Honda Civic saloon

They used to have an Octavia in Carrickmacross. They could impound cars in the boot.

Lighten up, a thread on Motors isn't a proper thread until it contains an Octavia boot post

No idea either way for sure to be honest but I'd imagine it wouldn't be on?

For example.. say my lovely 3L Quattro A6 gets impounded cause the tax is out a few days and the disc hasn't arrived yet (I know I know, extremely unlikely to be impounded for this but let's go with it). I can't imagine me being too happy to know "the boyz" had been joyriding in MY car while I sorted out the mess and I certainly wouldn't leave it at that if that's what I discovered when I got it back (like a lot more miles on it than when they took it).

If it's true then maybe it's only certain situations (like CAB seizures) that they could appropriate, but even then would these cars tecnivally not be held pending trial of the owner - everyon'e innocent till proven guilty right?

But then this is Ireland where it seems the authorities can come up with random ways to violate and alter the rights of citizens almost daily now anyway so who knows!

I would imagine they are only allowed to use cars that have been seized, ie have actually been transferred into the possession of the state, and not cars that are just impounded.

Ya I'd say those cars were taken by the criminal asset bureau, good to see it being done though, and costs the tax payer little to nothing :).
