Photoshop shadow help needed....

    Hi there, what's the best way to soften the object shadow here without taking away from the rest of the picture? Many thanks!

    Duplicate the layer. Clip the background out of the top layer so its just the diamond.

    Then you can do whatever you like with the background.

    There's all sorts of ways to clip out the diamond though. personally i use a marquee select with a 1 pixel feather and anti-alias and use it like an eraser.
