I am getting a 3 bike rack from Argos today (mont blanc universal rear 3 bike carrier) they are €49.99, the reviews look good. I have a BMW 520d so the fit will be similar. I will let you know how I get on.

OK I have fit the carrier to my car. It is very sturdy and I cant see how it could damage the paintwork etc. It does take a while to set up all the straps in the correct position but when done fitting is easy enough. The bike, in my case, needs to be mounted chainring out (ie front wheel pointing RIGHT as viewed from the rear) or the big ring might get damaged. The front wheel needs to be secured to prevent damage to the paintwork on the boot lid, and/or the brake lever. I intend to use extra bungees to stop any small movement that might cause paint rubs.

I have little doubt that the carrier will transport my bike in safety.
On the other hand I dont think I will ever carry 3 bikes as the bikes may damage each other.
I would imagine that the carrier could handle the weight without issue, but you may want to use some sort of padding between the frames to prevent damage.

All in all I am quite satisfied with my purchase.
