    Hi,

I was wondering if anyone had any advice or tips on how to get rid on incredibly dry and flaky skin. I moisturise religiously and exfoliate too, but just cant seem to beat it. Along my forehead I also have some bumps and spots which were never a problem for me before as with dry skin i never really had spots! I will try anything at this stage because its driving me nuts! :(

I have very dry skin on my shoulders and the back of my arms from medication I am taking at the minute. I've started using E45 cream and it's brilliant! The doctor had recommend cortisone cream but I'm a bit afraid of burning of my skin so I got E45 instead. I can also recommend using baby oil in the shower before you've dried yourself. Dry skin is horrible, hope something helps!

Hey captainspeckle, I have something similar - patchy dry skin on my forehead and occasional spots. I found Clinique Comfort on-call worked GREAT especially when my skin was super-dry in the winter, it's a little greasy to use under makeup but I use it at night and skin is soft and smooth in the morning. http://www.cliniquecomfortoncall.com/ "Use over time strengthens skin’s lipid barrier to support natural healing".

But honestly the best advise, as a number of people told me, is to DRINK WATER. you can exfoliate and moisturise all you want but it's not going to change your skin long-term unless you are well hydrated. I hate drinking water, but adding squash or lemon helps - and when I drink a lot of water on a regular basis I can honestly say my skin has never looked better!!

there's this stuff called Oilatum that you can get in Boots for 11 big ones. Works a charm! even on the stubborn stuff that you thought would never not be dry and flaky!

Is that the cream or the oil you use?

There is also a very good product called Lucas' PawPaw ointment- it's made in Australia but I did manage to find a supplier in the UK.

I would recommend Trilogy Everything Balm or even their Rosehip Oil. I find products like clinique are basically a load of chemicals and a natural product tends to deal with it better in the long run. Everything balm is so beautiful and is literally for everything. Fantastic on babies, adults, all those bits that need extra care. I use it as a face moisturiser all through the winter and never have dry or flaky patches. The Rosehip oil would be great to use at night,it soaks in so nicely and leaves skin feeling beautiful .I honestly have no connection to the company, they are from New Zealand, since first using them I have never looked back. I use them for my kids too. They are available in some chemists and lots of health shops, really hope yo give them a go before any of the chemical products.

    I would recommend Vichy Nutrilogie 2 http://www.vichyusa.com/nutrilogie-2-nourishing-moisturizer-cream.htm

It's around €20 here in Ireland but it is brilliant, most of the time my skin is fine but every so often I get extremely dry skin that will not clear up and this stuff starts working straight away, you might even be able to get a sample in a pharmacy first to see what you think because I think if you got a big enough sample for 2-3 days you should already see a noticeable difference.

A lot of pharmacys have tester pots for vichy so I think if you bring in a little pot and just ask the sales assistant can you try it for a few days because your skin is sensitive or something like that you should get a sample easily enough.

I cannot speak highly enough about this product, I absolutely love it!! They do a Nutrilogie number 1 but i've only ever tried the number 2.

I always had really really dry skin on my face too. It was so dry that if I even ran my finger along my skin it'd start to flake off, bleurgh!

I started using the Boots Cold Cream, it's much the same as the Ponds one but in a bigger tub and way cheaper. I take off my makeup with a babywipe first then use the cold cream. I use the Vit E moisturiser from Boots aswell and it seems to have done the trick! I haven't needed to exfoliate since I started using those, being a bit rough with the baby wipe seems to be all I need :)
