Can you grow a tree from a sucker

I have a peach tree that got badly damaged by some builders that we had in - its quite a sentimental tree for me, but apart from one green shoot its pretty dead.

I've just noticed that its thrown up a 2ft sucker from the base & just wondering if its possible to grow a new tree for it or graft it in some way ?

I'm afraid the sucker you mention is almost certain to be the graft rootstock - probably a quince. Unless you'd like a quince tree you should cut it off, it'll sap the strength from the peach tree on top.
