our club have just started traping for crows and mags. we made a large ladder trap and a few larsen traps. the mags are no problem, we,v got about 10 mags in a week or so but cant get a grey crow to get the ladder trap going. we tried a mag as a call bird but just caught mags. any tips
    thanks.

Go to your local butcher and ask for offcuts, leftovers etc is one way.

Another I found is use a feeding trough outisde the pen for a few days then once the birds have started feeding move it inside the trap.

you shouldnt need a decoy bird for a ladder trap .If you are building any sort of multi live catch trap for corvids it's a good idea to leave the ladder etc out of it for a while and prebait it ,let them get used to going in and out unhindered, then when it's being used on a regular basis set it
one tip empty it under the cover of darkness ;) or you'll never catch another grey crow in it and they are much more effective in winter when the birds are no-where near as territorial and tendd to buch into large groups

we tried that with the scraps but now we have a badger digging under the trap and eating all the meat. the trap is located in an area where greys are a problem, so no point in moving the trap. and cant use a leky fence. (it will be nicked) not sure what else we can do???

Am blue in the face saying this :D

2"x2" weldmesh is great trap making material. Will all parts of the trap except the ladder. It'll even do the floor ;)
