Despite me being anal about wearing spf 50 and boasting about how careful I am in the sun, was away this weekend and stupidly burnt my forehead while out for lunch.

I'm so angry with myself and feel so stupid.

Is this going to have a noticeable effect on my skin? What can I do to try lessen the effects? It's hot and red and even looks wrinklier than normal :(

Are there any good sun-specific lotions I could use? I guess aloe would be a good start?

I don't think getting burnt one time will do any long lasting damage. It's years of sunbathing and sun exposure that cause premature ageing. You must have really sensitive skin to get burnt while wearing factor 50!

Stay in the shade and maybe wear a hat to protect your face. Seventies style sun hats seem to be in right now, couldn't be more timely :)

I've heard aloe gel is good for soothing the skin after sunburn and also helps it to repair itself. If it starts peeling I would gently exfoliate or rub with a wet facecloth to remove the dead skin.

Thanks for the reassuring reply :)

Anyway that's the thing, due to a number of factors (including a 7am flight!), I wasn't actually wearing any SPF :(

    Argh SO STUPID!

    Hi there,
I have fairly fair skin so the chances I get burnt are very high.
On one of my first holidays to Turkey I did get badly burnt on my shoulders and I was reommended Vichy CAPITAL SOLEIL After Sun Repair Balm. It was so great. Its felt like I was putting on a layer of skin. It was so cooling and my skin didn't peel with it. Be aware it is expensive I think about €20 or a bit more but I can't recommend it enough.

    1) exfoliate, VERY gently, with a mild exfoliating face wash.

    2) moisturise, moisturise, moisturise! You can't put enough onto your skin, aloe gel is great for soothing sore skin but a thicker moisturiser will be needed too.

    3) cover up - the last thing you want to do is expose already burnt, sore skin to more sun so stay inside or wear a big hat!

    4) load on the SPF, as high a factor as you can get your hands on. You don't want to repeat this weekend.

Getting burnt once, while uncomfortable isn't the end of the world re premature aging and at least you are aware of it - the number of people over the weekend that were walking around in next to nothing with no SPF on was ridiculous!

Hope it not too painful this morning smile.gif

Thanks so much for the tip, I'm so going out at lunch time to pick that up!!!

I have it slathered in 50 now, not making that mistake again. Going to Thailand in 2 weeks time so am going to be so so so so careful over there.

    Thanks again
