    Hi all,
Any advice on the best options for braces that are discreet and wont have to be in for too long? I'm on a budget too.... Am I asking for too much ?

    Hi

It is not possible to give you an idea of the best treatment for you without seeing you first.

However, the more discrete or less visible an appliance is the more expensive it becomes. Talk to your dentist or orthodontist about the best options www.loveyoursmile.ie

The cost could range from €1-7000 and the time could be 6 to 36 months

As per previous poster, without knowing what you need to have done, it's hard to give advice. I can only tell you my story and my experience.

This time last year I was told I needed braces to correct my bite as my front teeth were eroding each other :( Anyway, I wasn't impressed that my dentist had caught this before now - I'm 26 and going to him for years! As it turned out, he wanted 4000euro to do them, with a 2000euro deposit up front

Once I dragged myself off the floor, I got two additional opinions and ended up going to Newry to get my braces in August 2010. It's half the price in Newry and the orthodontist is very good. I have the traditional metal train tracks on the bottom but he put clear brackets on the top so all you can see is the wire. It's very discreet. Everything that goes on the top teeth - power chains, elastics, he always uses clear and he changes them every app so that they are always shiny :)

I've had them on now for 8 months and the change is AMAZING! I will have them for another 10 months roughly. At times it is slow and sometimes painful, but every time I look in the mirror, I know it's worth it!

Go and get a few consultations and if you do go for it, you'll be delighted.

PM me if you want any info. :)

I think the difference was 1000 euro less ;)and correct me if I am incorrect but was the 4000 euro for all ceramic brackets top and bottom where as you got metal brackets on the bottom in the end?

You should always look around at prices but lets not get carried away and lets compare like with like:) Check out http://www.orthodontics.ie/ for a list of orthodontists prices will vary depending on location, specification and your case. Price differences between the north and south have basically evaporated with the sterling difference and cheaper prices in the south...happy hunting.

Well either way, for me, it's still cheaper than 4000euro! 1000euro is better in my pocket that my dentists, imo. :) And no the 4000euro was not for ceramic, it was for metal top and bottom - hence why I was disgusted with him! I just found that particular dentist to be more of a money grabber, he didn't seem too pushed when I told him I'd be looking elsewhere, whereas the ortho I see now is much more patient orientated (again, just my experience). I didn't ask him to put on the clear top brackets, he just did that because he knew I'm 26 and I didn't particularly relish the idea of the full metal brackets!

Again, this is just my experience, everyone is different and every ortho is different! :)

orthodontics are tax deductable at 20% via a med 2 form. Your orthodontist will supply this.
