Ok i made the plunge to get the ipad 2.Whats the best case to buy and do you really need to get a screen protector.

Im looking for a skinny case that will allow me to have a slant when im typing..

In my opinion, a screen protector is a NO.
I have a smart cover now, which I like, but I am also considering an enevelope-like case with some padding for when on the go.

There was a similar thread a few days ago - an interesting case from zagg mate. I went with a tuff luv tri axis leather one.

Have a Griffen slim folio case and a zagg invisible screen on mine.

I use a smart cover and got a free Zagg invisible shield. The shield does change the feel of the screen - makes it feel a little rubbery. But it will protect the glass. I didn't bother with the rear protector - my MacBook Pro is made from the same aluminium and has been carted around the place for years without any scratches or wear. I don't think I'll bother with any other case for the amount it's going to be taken out of the house. The backpack I use has a laptop pouch built in, so it can go in there.

My only concern about the smart cover is that when I leave it down on the table, it looks like a placemat! I can see the mother in law putting the teapot down on it one of these days.

I've a screen protector on mine from day one. Mind you it's only a cheap one from ebay but does the trick for me. Also using a smart cover which doesn't really ever come off the iPad.
And as somebody mentioned above I've a slip case for on the go which is thin and very well padded. Think the lighter the better you don't want a huge folder size case when you just want to be using it mostly indoors. Why reduce the size and weight just to add it back on with a case.

Using only smart cover, was thinking also getting screen protector but after weeks of use i realise i dont need it ; smart cover is enough for me.

Bought this one last week, its for the i pad 1 but my ipad2 fits perfectly (as in the pouch is not too big)

also has a handy zip pocket on the fron

I ordered one of these from Amazon last week for £11... They are €35 in CompuB ;)

I see now that they have gone up slightly but iPad fits very well and I'm able to carry stylus, cleaning cloth etc. in the one pouch.

That looks nice. Think I'll be upgrading to that I've only a cheap eBay one I decided to wait for a bigger selection of iPad 2 Slip cases to come out. That the nicest I've seen so far.

I got one of these in CompuB last week. Snug fit, fairly thin and has a magnet that locks it when it's closed! Haven't got a screen protector as the screen is covered when it's closed!

Beware of the Cygnett cases. Make sure you test the operation of the lock/unlock feature before leaving the shop.
Myself and a friend bought one each at the same time last weekend in CompuB and his one does lock/unlock the iPad but my one doesn't. Turns out when I investigated that the early stock of the Cygnett cases didn't come with the magnets and they'll provide a free kit if you email them.
I emailed on Sunday but didn't get a response yet...nice case though. I am curious as to what the 'kit' consists of - I'm not sure I like the idea of cutting open my case to install a magnet!

Yeh I have one of these case as well. I bought it in compub. I was not aware that it was supposed to lock the iPad. As it does not say it on the packaging.

But looking at the link you posted. I can apply for one as well. Mine does not lock the screen.
