    Hi all

I am undertaking a level 5 FETAC course and as I understand it, the best 8 modules go towards making up your certificate. However are all the compulsory modules included in your scoring. As I am doing 9 modules, if I do better in some of the extras will they count instead of the compulsory modules?

I'm not completely sure, but I think you need to pass the compulsory modules to get the full award. If you fail the compulsory ones, and get distinctions in the rest, you don't get a full award but a 'component certificate'. All the modules you do will be on the certificate, as far as I know.

If you need 8 distinctions to do a particular course then, unless the university specifies otherwise, any 8 distinctions will do, as long as you at least pass the compulsory modules.

(when I started typing, I really thought I knew the answer to your q...now I'm thinking I've just confused myself...Good luck with the exams though!)

In order to get a full award and thus use your FETAC award to progress to a Institute of Technology or University then you must pass the mandatory modules and a sufficient number of additional modules (at the same level ie Level 5 in your case I would assume) to make up the number of modules required for a full award.

In general most full awards require 8 modules (mandatry and others) but if some of your modules are worth 2 credits then you may have the necessary number of credits without reaching 8 credits.

You also need to be aware of what rresults in what modules that the IoTs or Universities are seeking.

All modules are included on your FETAC Award.
