Hello , I'm applying for rent relief and I need the money pretty urgently. Does anybody know from experience how long it has taken to come through?. Could I be waiting months?. Thanks.

I doubt you're applying for rent relief. It's a tax relief worth a measly €400 a year and has been axed.

It's rent supplement (sometimes referred to as rent allowance).

You need to be assessed as having a housing need and possibly renting for 6 months. If you need money urgently you will need to shake up a Community Welfare Officer.

imo a ban is a bit extreme. as Sabbrafyffe suggested, the op should enquire to the non-national;s situation .. i.e. how little they contributed to the economy, and how this made them eligible to claim benefits (no mean = max benefits).

Jesus don't tell me this little glimmer of hope has been taken away!!. I was going to question why they still had the forms in the office but then again this is Ireland. I'll give them a phone and see what they say.

It's still available. It's just going to be phased out and is not available to people who were not renting in December last year.
