UPC Remote control issue?(Digital select extra)

Ive just got a UPC bundle but the tv remote is jumpy. I cant go from say RTE1 to Sky news by punching in the 3 digit channel number. Instead i have to traverse through the channels to get there.Surely there must be a handier way?. If im not being clear what im saying is i cant from channel 102 press 402 to get to channel 402. Instead im landed at pg 100 or it simply doesnt work.

Well very occasionally it works but it seems hair trigger and ive had several different people try it and all agree the same.

Its just so awkward when you want to switch to a channel that is too far away to easily scroll up.

Is this an issue with the UPC remote control?. Anyone else have this problem?.

I have tried to google a pic of this particular remote but i cant find one so it must be one of the newest. Long thin black one.

If you don't enter a correct channel number quick enough it does automatically bring you to channel 100. Try it again real quick and see does it work. It should allow you more time, and it shouldn't bring you to channel 100 either but sadly it does

Thanks, that works, the ninja 0.134 of a sec gets the job done. It seems its a programming fault as surely they should give a 2 second buffer between presses. In the unsurped SKY case they gave about 7 seconds or so.

    Thanks again

Its definetly a fault, I can have about 4 or 5 seconds delay between presses and it still works

Thats good to know. I need to ring them about something else so will mention this.

The something else by the way is that i got HD+ with multiroom and they assumed the multiroom didnt need record/rewind(or i assumed id get this functionality for the second room) so i recieved the basic box for the other room with no record function. Strangely both remote controls are the very same.

on my remote from an old chorus sagem box, I press ok which brings up the channel list. I use the arrow keys to scroll to the new channel, and press ok again to change. There is also a 'back' button to quickly return to the previous channel which can also be useful.

I have these functions and the 2 station toggle with the back button is very usefull. But the problem with the channel list scrolling is that if there is several hundred in the difference between channels(i.e 102 to 500) then thats a lot of scrolling for a channell switch!

Ring them up tomorrow and tell them, they should have it fixed soon. 1908 is the customer service number

this thread is done to death.

it's being caused by IR interfereence from your LCD TV. move th ebox away from the TV cover the receivor on the box with the electrical tape. Ring them up and tell them you want a silver remote. the black remotes tend to have a lower signal than the silver ones.

the sooner manufactures move towards a better technology like zigbee the better.

I rang them this morning before seeing these two updated and the Indian girl indicated what Ted suggested. Only she said cover to infra red on the tv?.

Ted its understood why i should move the box away from the tv but could you spell it out to me how covering the IR on the box with electrical tape will help?. This wont inhibit commands from the remote to the box but will stop conflict with the TV, is that it?.
Its the black upc badged remote i have for both boxes.

Actually no need to respond because i found some old threads with similar problems and rang basecamp and the tape over the stb sensor seems to have done the trick.

Another chap with a new sony bravia switched off the ambient sensor and backlight and no more problems. So that sounds like a non tape fix for people that the tape trick isnt working for.

    Thanks!

No not quite the same zigbee is kind of like blue tooth but uses less power but has a much faster wake up time. It means no more line of site needed. It's also duplex so will allow am info screen on remote. On top of that its very low cost.

When you press ok to bring up the channel list, press the right arrow which will move the list down 20 or so. This should speed up the process.
