How do I dispose of a child's car seat?

We have a child's car seat which I need to get rid of. The straps are faulty so I wouldn't pass it on to anyone. Is there anyway to dispose of it other than putting it into landfill? We have no proof of purchase so we can't return it to the shop. They have stopped selling it anyway.

If you are replacing it with a new one will the store where you buy the new one not take it off you or does that only apply to electrical stuff?

As you said, applies only to electrical items. Landfill I'm afraid.
