Dirty Petrol or Just Coincidence?

On the way home last night I was passing Topaz with petrol @1.48, I had €10 so added 6.75 litres to the tank which was half full already.

Started up fine and I drove out and heard clicking in the ignition on the steering wheel but the car seemed fine but it was making this noise. Probably should have driven the two miles home but I pulled in and turned it off.

Started it a second time and it fired but ran very rough ,seemed ok at idle speed but couldn't pull the car without jerking. The clicking I could hear from the ignition seemed to relate to the cars pattern of jerking for the 2 seconds before I had to switch it off and leave it in a carpark.

The wrong fuel wasn't put it (have the receipt)& I've bought fuel from this station numerous times before.

Passed later on and tried it but nothing, it won't turn over when the you go to START, You can just hear a click from the starer motor and thats it, nothing:(

Looks like an electrical problem instead of fuel by this stage.

We thought it could be coil packs but maybe it's something to do with the igntion on the wheel where the key is inserted ?

Was looking @ this thread http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056171788

Sounds like a similar problem and it looks like the ignition switch is the problem.

    Thanks for any help.

    That was quick!

I'm pretty sure it's not , it couldn't have gone down that quickly, it never happened before, I'm going down later with jump leads to make sure though.

I'd love if its that simple:pac:

if starter clicks, mean battery gone. It would happen, when alternator gone.... try jumpstart your car, and look, if on dash small red colour battery illuminated while car is is working, it does mean, alternator gone, and car use battery power ignite sparkplugs, and power rest of electrics .

the auxilary belt could of snapped, wouldnt take the battery long to discharge in that case

That happened last night, the battery light on the dash was was not coming on when the igntion was turned on and I remember saying the battery light is acting up.

More certain sure alternator gone, but to make sure100%, just check with tester what power make alternator while engine running.... if that power around 14 v, then it could be relay gone, if less then 12v, then alternator need to be change.

Just went back, I chargered the battery but when I went to start still nothing:confused: the battery light doesn't come on when the ignition is on like it's supposed to. Anybody know what that means?

I'm going to taker the battery out and charge it at home with a charger to see it that makes a difference.

Your starter motor could be jammed, you'll need a couple of helpers for this, put the car in 3rd or 4th gear, then push it backwards and forwards a few times, a couple of feet each way will do, then try again.
