JOCKEY Peter Toole is understood to be in critical condition in hospital following a fall at Aintree on Grand National Saturday.

Toole suffered a heavy fall when his mount, outsider Classic Fly, fell early in the John Smith's Maghull Novices' Chase.

Charlie Mann, to whom Toole is attached as a conditional jockey, wrote onhis Twitter account at around 7pm on Saturday: "Peter Toole being kept under sedation in hospital [with] possible head injuries."

Toole was taken to the nearby Fazakerley Hospital and was subsequently transferred to the neighbouring Walton Centre Centre For Neurology & Neuro Surgery, where he was being treated on Saturday night.

He's a very decent jockey and while I know nothing else about him I hope he make a quick and full recovery.

Jockey Peter Toole remains in a serious condition following a fall at Aintree yesterday.
Toole, from Dunshaughlin, Co Meath was riding Classic Fly in the John Smith's Maghull Novices' Chase when his mount fell heavily at the first fence.

Toole was initially taken to Fazakerley Hospital, but was then transferred to the Walton Centre for Neurology where he was put in an induced coma.

Trainer Charlie Mann, to whom Toole is attached, said this morning: "Peter is in an induced coma and hopefully they'll bring him round tomorrow.

"He's got bleeding on the right side of his brain and they've put him in the coma to give his brain a rest.

"He'll be kept in it until tomorrow at the earliest and then the doctors can take a look. His parents are with him and he's in good hands."

Just read that there, hope he's alright.

Seems all is going ok so far http://www.rte.ie/sport/racing/2011/0412/toolep.html

Hope to God there's no serious damage, not too long ago my younger bro was in a worse situation and came out with only losing the sight in one eye.

Another bad fall for a jockey:(

    Taken from Racing Post website.

AMATEUR jockey Richard Hawkins was being kept in intensive care on Tuesday night following a heavy fall in the opening race at Taunton earlier in the day.

Hawkins was knocked out in the incident and was treated at the scene for more than 15 minutes by course medics. He had yet to come round when stretchered into the ambulance for the short journey to Musgrove Park Hospital.

Tiger Dream came down at the fourth flight, the one before the grandstands, in the selling handicap hurdle.

Hawkins is attached to the yard of his great uncle Chris Down, who trains Tiger Dream.

Down said: "He has had a scan and there is no fracture and no bleeding on the brain, which is good news. He's being kept in intensive care under sedation overnight for observation."

Hawkins, the brother of 5lb claimer Giles, rode his first and only winner under rules aboard GlacialCall at Exeter last May and was having just his 38th ride.

Least he's not as critical as Peter Toole was but goes to show the risks these lads take everytime they get on a horse. Hope both recover fully and once again see them riding.

Hope the two lads make a full recovery, thankfully Peter has woken up but there is still some concern over his mobility in his right side.

16 pages about animal cruelty related to the Grand National in another thread and only a handful of posts about a seriously injured jockey, the mind boggles.

Just thought i'd bump this up to say it's great to hear Peter Toole left Dun Laoghaire Rehabilitation Center on Tuesday he really was on his way to becoming a top jockey before his fall and it would be great to see him ride once again in the future.
