Registering birth

Hi, just looking for a bit of help please.
Is it true that there are only 2 places in Dublin where you can register the birth of your child? And do both parents need to be present? It just seems a bit strange to try to get across the city with a newborn in tow, they don't make it easy! Also does anyone know what other paperwork is needed?

Thanks for any help, much appreciated.

Not sure about the two places, but only one parent is required and baby doesn't have to attend!

    According to Citizens Information (here)

"The mother and father of the child are the main qualified informants and, where possible, must attend personally for the registration of the birth."

if your not married both parents have to go. If you check out citizens information website they'll tell you what you need i think you need passport and pps number could be wrong about what you need but i no for a fact both parents have to go unless they are married

yes you do need your passport too or long birth cert and both parents have to attend if not married
just registered my one 7mths ago was a big thing
also if your not married discuss the surname before you go in as I wanted both our surnames but if you put yours first then thats what will be officially used whereas if you put a - between names then it ends up being double barrelled
so if you both want his surname to be the babys then his goes first then yours

If you are married only one has to attend. The only reason both of you need to be there is if you want both signatures on the birth cert.

There's only one place, Lombard House on Lombard Street, Dublin 2.

It's actually Joyce House on Lombard St. But you can register the birth at any registrar's office - they're scattered all over the country.

Aha, Joyce House is the place where you go to get copies of birth certificates, but there is a little gate just off Joyce House called Lucia House (not Lombard House, stupid me...) where you actually register births and deaths etc... that was the one I was talking about... I remember because when I was registering Addison I actually went into Joyce House first and the redirected me to Lucia House.

Get on to the HSE so - This link says Joyce House. I work two minutes from it - I'll wander down tomorrow just for curiosity sake.
