Cancelling my free skysports with UPC

I signed up for the UPC deal for 60 euro back at the end of february, this includes the channels, broadband and landline, I also get skysports free for 2 months however I was told if I didnt cancel get I would be billed after the 2 months are up, I am wondering if I had to give them 1 months notice to cancel skysports or would anytime during the free 2 months do? If its the case I had to give 1 months notice to cancel skysports Im going to get rid of the whole package, I think its normal that people will forget to do this and would prove just a sneaky way for upc to get more money out of people?I had problems with upc before, 2 years ago I was getting only the broadband off them, I cancelled this over the phone before the contract was up so I was prepared to pay the cancelation fee, a month passed and after paying the fee they sent out another bill as if I didnt cancel, I called them to tell them I had canceled this and they said they had no records of this, luckily for me as well as verbarlly cancelling I sent them an email and cc'd myself, I sent them photocopies of this and they hadnt a leg to stand on as my prove was there in writing, I notcie now on their website they do not provide you with an email address as you have to fill out an online form, I think this is unacceptable because a customer should be able to get documented evidence of a cancelation, otherwise its our word against theirs.

Writing a letter is the only effective way to cancel a subscription. Short of someone putting the letter in the shredder, it will be acted on.

If you phone a service provider to cancel a subscription, the call agent is supposed to persuade you to stay on as a customer, if they do not succeed in doing this it counts as a failure on their part so the easiest way around this is to simply not act on the customer's request. If you phone to cancel, ask the agent for their full name, that is an effective deterrent against them 'forgetting' to cancel your sub.
