Advice on taping moustache bars

I have a Nitto moustache handlebar and these Dia Compe plug-in brake levers. I have some Fizik bar tape I want to get on but I'm unsure what the best way to tape up the bars is.

OK, I know how to tape bars. Ordinarily, you'd start at the end and work your way to the stem and stick in the plugs after.

My issue is: in between getting the brake cable positioned on the bars before wrapping them in, I need to plug in the brake levers but won't this cause trouble somehow? Also, I guess I can only hope the plugs will fit in along with the tape. Already they fit very tightly.

Put the brakes on first. Then wrap the bars normally, starting at the ends, with the exception that you don't stuff any of the bar tape into the ends as the brake is already in there. Do one loop around tight against the brake and then spiral out along the bar. The brake is designed to fit tight in the bar without any tape holding it in, mine had an allen key at the end and expanding bolt to hold it in place in the bar but not sure about those ones. That is how I did my TT bars anyway, same sort of brake. Note with moustache bars you will have the brake pointed the wrong way; I am not sure how ergonomic this will end up although I am sure it will be usable.

I use a pair of cross levers pointing forward. I end up using my index fingers on the end of the levers which gives more braking power than little fingers on the end of the lever. Bar-end levers on a moustache bar will end up the same way...

I actually worked out how to do it my own way. The results look OK. Thanks for the advice. I removed the metal collar/shim (which I assume is there for use if you're not tucking the tape in) and there was plenty of room then to stuff in the tape and secure the lever. Maybe I'll do it differently next time, but it looks swell.

FYI: it's Fizik honey colour bar tape to match my Brooks saddle.
