Office 2010 and printing issues

I have had this issue on a number of sites recently. After upgrading to office 2010 I get the message no printer found when trying to print from an office application. From trawling the net, setting xps printer to default is supposed to solve this issue, however it hasn't worked for me and the problem remains intermittent. There are no issues printing from anything else, e.g webpages, wordpad, notepad etc.

The only solution I have found is to reinstall an older version of office. Anyone have any experience of this or an ideas on how to overcome it?

    Found this on google

"Which printer you are using with your computer so that you are getting the problem of printing. If you are using the HP printer then this is the known issue with HP printer. All you have to do get rid of this is to update the driver of your device from the site of the HP. So that you can run the printer with the latest driver. After updating the driver try to print again"

I've setup things like pdfcreator for testing printing

back in the old days restarting the print spooler service was common enough if there were no printers listed

I have definitely been using the latest drivers from the manufacturers website. I have also tired restarting the spooler and other dependencies. This issue has now occurred with , HP, Brother and a Canon printer.

I think my next step is to reinstall office 2010 x64 version and see if that works.

edit: Ive just seen this which may be worth a look

To prevent Office 2010 from disabling printers, set the DisablePrintFeatureOnCrash registry entry. To do this, follow these steps:

    Start Registry Editor.
    Click Start
    the Start button
, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.

Note If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password or provide confirmationI.
Locate and then click the following registry subkey:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Common\General

On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
Type DisablePrintFeatureOnCrash, and then press ENTER.
Right-click DisablePrintFeatureOnCrash, and then click Modify.
In the Value data box, type 0, and then click OK.
    Exit Registry Editor.
