    Hello,
I am in the process of buying an IPAD 1 on ebay, The guy selling the pad stated his original pad was faulty and Apple replaced with a new 32gb 3G pad last week, the pad is unregistered at the moment, this seems a great deal as Im effectively getting a new ipad for 325E. He did forward the serial number which I verified with Apple, the product is unregistered. What should I be looking out for when we meet Monday am?

Make sure it has it's box, and if it's been activated make sure ther serial number in settings matches the box. If it's not activated I'm not sure how you'll do this. Also make sure the correct charger comes with it. The correct one is the old style bulky one, not the slim one used on iPhones. Any apple charger other than the iPad one will charge it very very slowly.

Obvious ones like watching for scratches, dead pixels etc, make sure all buttons are responsive and do what they should.

Replacements usually only come in a padded brown box and don't have the new serial number on them. They also come with 90 day warranty if original warranty has expired.

Are replacement pads refurbed or brand new? How would I tell?.with regards to dead pixels, excuse my ignorance but what's this ? Will I know if this is the case when I turn on the pad ?

Get the IMEI number off the back and check to make sure it's a legit device.

dead pixels are where the pixels on the screen dont respond, staying one colour. its unlikely to happen, but you'll know it when you see it.

i cant comment about refurb boxes as i've never seen a refurb ipad.

an imei number would only be on a 3g ipad and is different to a serial number. if its anything like an iphone the imei number is either on the back of the pad or on the sim tray when you take it out (been a while since i've seen a 3g pad so i cant remember) if all numbers match and you're happy with the condition and its legit....you're good to go!

With respect your buying on eBay so there isn't a whole lot you can do. Serials can be faked, spoofed, read from else where. Pay by PayPal, double check the listing. You'll be safe and sound that way.

Put it this way, your far better off than buying off Adverts for cash etc.
