We have the use of a house in London during the Olympics and we have to enter the lottery for tickets soon. What events are potentially going to have an Irish interest? Go on...be brave! :)

Apologies...I meant specific events. Who are our contenders?

Possibly limited to the boxing then as far as actual chances of winning anything, or one of the horse things. Don't know any names though, sorry. Other sports is just ones that there will be "someone taking part", although there was a 4th place I think from the Irish/ German guy Reish(?) in the canoeing last time and he was pretty unlucky with that I seem to remember.

Unfortunately one is only allowed the one application. Among all the fine print on the website and in the brochure is the fact that you have only one go BUT (a) it is highly unlikely that all tickets will go at this stage which ends at midnight tonight. Thus it is quite likely that there will be other opportunities later.

Your chances of gettign oen later are "reasonable" as long as you are not after somethingliek 100m final or opening/closing ceremony or the beach volleyball which will be thebig surprise sell out of the Games as far as ticketing is concerned.

Irish fans have been particularly applying for boxing tickets. You can also apply once the Olympic Council of Ireland announce their application is availablethoriough their appointed ticketing agent though that may not be enough to satisfy Irish applicants inc those unsuccessful in today's General application stage open to all RESIDENTS of European countries as specified in the documentation.

Finally the London2012 site will allow you later to apply for tickets that have been returned to them for resale. That is the only way one can legally sell or buy unwanted tickets. I would stress though that overall the system is a very fair one designed to keep tickets away from the ticket touts though of course that is exceptionally difficult if not impossible despite the new £20,000 maximum fine that has been recently announced in Britain for touts selling such official tickets.

Hope you get the ones you want that you have applied for and I'd say you have a "sporting chance" of getting others later at the "resale" stage....Other than that if you are a member of a sporting organisation whose sport is included in 2012 then ask your club or the organisation's HQ re availability of any tickets for club members.

Yes, it is going to be very difficult indeed for any Irish sports star to win a medal in London 2012 which will be the most competitive in Olympic history.... but here goes :

boxing: Paddy Barnes, Joe Ward (young but improving all the time), Katie Taylor

    Triathlon: Aileen Morrison

Outside chance: swimming: Grainne Murphy 800m

I'm applying for few tickets now. For the boxing you have to select the weight. What weight are the above?

    Katie Taylor LightWeight 60kg Women's
    Paddy Barnes FlyWeight 52kg
    ***Joe Ward Light Heavy 81kg

but remember that you cannot be sure when the Irish boxers will be in action and above all remember that no boxers have yet qualified for the Olympics as none of the qualifying tournaments has yet taken place .

Also remember that these are but MY "best guesses" and there are other equally good Irish boxers.eg: Darren O'Neill, John Joe Nevin etc.

*** whilst I think that Joe Ward has a great career in front of him and is a good medal prospect others will disagree and say that Kenny Egan might be a better bet since he won a medal at Beijing in same weight.

The big problem with all of the applications for tickets now is taht you could buy tickets now and find no irish competitors "on the day". There is one consolation though and that is if you decide you do NOT want to use the tickets you can re-sell them at "cost price" on the organisers special "resell site" which will be operational in early 2012. That said it is likely that they will charge a "handling fee" for reselling your unused ticket.

Final personal thought is that there are several FREE events for the London games inc BOTH Men's and Women's Marathon, part of the Triathlon, also the 20km Race Walks (men and women) with good Irish competitors, Cycling Road Race and Time Trial so something that can be enjoyed by all at no cost is available....
