Trying to install replacement cig lighter

I am trying to put in one of these into an '08 Fiesta van. The two 'flattened ends' of the lighter fit snugly into the reciprocal connector. However, I'm not sure what I'm supposed to to with the other two wires! One is red/positive - and has a 'flattened' end on it - as if it should be slotted in somewhere?
The other one is a negative - and they say to attach it to the chassis.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Is the lighter working without them being connected. If it is I'd say they are for a light around it.

those wires look to be for illumination.

Thanks to you both for your input.

I didn't have a spare 15A fuse - but I replaced fuse - and whilst the lighter seemed to work, it wouldn't stay 'popped down'. I didn't have the other additional wires attached to anything as going on what you said, they were responsible for illumination. Unless of course they are also responsible for this popup feature?

Also, when I checked the fusebox - there were two positions indicated for a fuse related to the cigarette lighter. Presumably, the second one is responsible for the illumination??

I don't see why there'd be a single fuse just for the cigarette lighter light ring. Most likely linked to the dash lights and on the same circuit.

Yeah - no nothing about it but it has exactly the same icon for each fuse position i.e. smoldering cigarette

Second position is to do with whiter the cigar lighter works when ignition is on or off.

well, I have replaced the 15amp fuse just now - but while it 'burns' with finger pressed down - it doesn't hold down and 'pop up' when its done.

I have left the other two wires loose - as I simply don't know what to do with them! The black negative I can attach to the metal shaft of the gear stick I guess...but the other (red) one - has no reciprocal slot to go into....

Some cigarette lighters do stay in, some don't. Just the way it is I think.

As for the second supply for the lighting ring, you will need to tap into an existing live which is controlled by the lights. Word to the wise, if you're not sure how to do this, don't bother. Its not worth the risk.

Ok, that's fair enough then - As long as I have not put it in wrong - then I'll live with that aspect of it :-)

cigarette lighters shouldnt stay in. they'd melt eventually if they did.

Why not try installing the original if it was just the fuse?

are you using the aftermarket socket with the ford lighter?

Of course - but is it not a case that most lighters pop out after a couple of seconds?

Idiot tax! Have to put my hands up - I assumed that it was the lighter - but of course it wasn't!

No - using complete aftermarket unit.
