    HI Guys,

I have been trying to get through to the Chinese embassy for the last two weeks; ringing the number on the website between specified times; ringing between specified times on the answering machine... which are different.

I still have not got through.

I am traveling to China in a couple of weeks and need a double entry tourist Visa. Is it possible to post my visa application to them? if not does anyone know what day and what time i have to go to the embassy with my documents. Does this process take long? ie should i take a day off work. Finally can i pay in cash?

    Thanks in advance

The consular department opening hours are listed on the embassy's website. Applications are accepted only at very specific times. Also note that the consular department is not located at the embassy. It has its own address, pretty much across the road from the UK embassy.

Once you do show up at the right time and with the right documents, it is all pretty painless. Submitting your application should take no longer than 30 minutes. When your visa is ready, you pick it up from a different counter with an even shorter queue. You pay on pick-up by postal money order.

I think I had to wait around a week for my visa.

they like to know where in China you are going.

Bring everything you have for your journey just in case you need it

my friend try to ring the chinese embassy several times, and no one answer the phone.
so she went go the embassy in person.
the people in the embassy said, no one will answer the phone, you should come to the embassyl personally.
for more info, i am not sure since i never go to the chinese embassy.
just give you some info i know.

It is true that nobody answers the phone there. the embassy visa office is on merrion road, across the road from British embassy.
you dont have to book everything before applying for visa but you do need to tell them where you are visiting, a printed detailed travel itinerary is good enough. also bring your bank statement, letter from employer to confirm employment...

they only open between 9-12:30 monday to thursday i think.

One thing is that I saw a notice outside the embassy which said they don't accept cash

That's correct. You need to pay by postal money order. But this is not an issue: You do not need to bring any payment with you when applying for the visa. When you are applying, they only tell you how much you will have to pay. You then have several days to organize the money order as you will only need it once you come to pick up your visa.

That depends on whether you're getting your visa in the normal 5 working days or the 1 working day for double the price. Always factor in at least 1 extra day to get the visa. They only take bank drafts or postal orders made out to the Chinese Embassy but they will tell you this and the amount needed when you drop in your application form.
